Day 1: TechTop Workshop

Day 1 of the Techtop Workshop, Trivandrum

The MIT Make in India students left the House on a "Party Bus" that played old Bollywood 90s music with all the bass ever. Then we arrived at Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology for the Techtop Workshop. We attempted to mingle with the Indian students and met some interesting people.

The workshop then started with an open session with Rajesh Nair talking about the overall idea of innovation and entrepreneurship. Then we were all split into our respective tracks. My track, Internet of Things, had a lot of brainstorming sessions in which we had an overview of the Internet and modules and then brainstormed how we could use the Internet to solve problems in the world.

We were split up into groups to brainstorm the solutions to 5 different problems and pitch our simple ideas to the rest of the group. My group was Pritam and Anoop. We did this following the layout that our track leaders, Prashant and Paul, showed us:

Humans (observe) -> Problem -> Need Statement -> Solution (incorporating engineering—IoT modules and the market) -> Project Management

Our five ideas were general health checkup app, car humidity fixer, allergy sensor, soil detection, and brain impulse sensor for epilepsy patients. While presenting we learned how to present concisely and understandable to others. The other groups gave us feedback on both our product idea and presentation skills. We learned to consider feasibility and consumer market in our ideas. Then we were told that documenting the whole process is important and therefore I am writing this blog.
